What is LMS?
LMS stands for Learning Management System. Elementary scholars will use Google Classroom and secondary scholars (middle and high) will use Canvas.
How tech savvy do I need to be to help my scholar?
If you have younger scholars, it's a good idea to become familiar with Google Classroom to help your scholar submit assignments and do other tasks. If your scholar is older, he or she may not need any help. However, it helps to know the program to describe the problem to the teacher if anything goes wrong. Refer to the videos below for more details on each LMS.
What happens if my scholar cannot login?
Contact your scholar's teacher or school for help.
What are the expectations for my scholar during live online classes?
Please refer to the JPS Online Classroom Expectations .
How can I communicate with my scholar's teacher?
We will use SchoolStatus to communicate. Please contact your scholar's school if there is a problem with receiving communication from SchoolStatus.
How can I check my scholar's grades?
All grades will be available to view in ActiveParent. You also have the option to view your scholar's gradebook on the LMS.
How will scholars with IEPs and/or 504 plans still receive support?
JPS is committed to providing scholars with the support they need. Please refer to the JPS Virtual Learning Plan for more details.
How will my scholar's privacy be protected online?
Since scholars will be learning from home, it is important to be aware of what your scholar does online. You can find tips here
How will I be informed of assignments, announcements, etc.?
We will use SchoolStatus to communicate. Please contact your scholar's school if there is a problem with receiving communication from SchoolStatus. You can receive notifications from the LMS about assignments.
Canvas- Parents/guardians can setup to receive notifications regarding their scholar's account. Find more information here .
Google Classroom- Parents/guardians can receive an summary of scholar's work and review announcements and activities. Please contact your scholar's teacher on how to receive these notifications.
How can I make sure my scholar is actually working online and on task?
If you are able to monitor your scholar with your own eyes and ears, try a few tips, such as setting a timer, taking breaks, and giving rewards.
